This was such an incredible birth! I’m sure I sound like a broken record player because I always say that but I’m just blown away every single time! It is such an honor to be able to document such a precious time.
This sweet mama called me in the afternoon to let me know baby #3 would be making his/her (it was a surprise!) debut some time that evening. She still sounded completely calm and “normal” so I wasn’t sure if I should head her way yet or not. I live about an hour away and I didn’t want to miss anything. I arrived around 6:30 p.m. and while she was definitely in labor she was still just so calm and collected. Her plan was to labor at home for as long as possible, transfer to the hospital (home births are not available in her area), have her baby, and then get home just as soon as they would release her.
She labored at home until about 9:00. She kept asking how far along we thought she was, should we head to the hospital? But it was so hard to tell because I’m not kidding you, she was just going with the flow and still laughing and smiling in between contractions! Finally, we decided to head to the hospital and she was settled into a room around 9:25. They were supposed to have a tub ready when we got there but it hadn’t even been set up yet. Mama opted for the shower instead. And that is exactly where little miss Abigail was born shortly there after, right into her Daddy’s hands! It was unbelievable!
It is so amazing to witness the strength and love during a birth. Mama was so strong and full of grace and Dad was such a support for her. Such an incredible birth story and I am so thankful for the chance I had to be there!
