Being welcomed into a birth is always so humbling. I love to photograph relationships and love and this was such a fun birth. In the beginning, Victoria wasn’t feeling much from her contractions even though they were showing up on the monitor, so we roamed the halls. I was cracking up at the “poses” these two were coming up with, including the “Caution, Wet Floor” image. Appropriate. We may have even ventured to the lobby for some “Awkward Family photo” style pictures by the (amazing) Poinsettia Christmas Tree (not shown. But trust me, we nailed it!) Dirk may or may not have gone for a ride on Victoria’s mobile IV unit. And those images of Dirk lovingly wrapping Victoria in a preheated blanket? Not staged at all!
Then things started getting a little more serious. Victoria was amazing throughout the entire process. So was Dirk. After an epidural, everyone tried to get some rest. No more racing down the halls.
Victoria’s Mom caught the red eye from across the country and made it here in time to welcome her newest grandchild.
